Designed for Relationship
According to Genesis 1, before humans were created, God existed in relationship. Some say this is a hint of the Trinity because the word for God in subsequent passages is Elohim (God in plural form). But one does not need to go into the Hebrew to notice something quite literal and obvious; God was not alone. “Let us…” Who is this referring to? We don’t know for sure, but we know he was not alone. He exists in relationship.
Walking in Community
We all long to be connected and belong. We desire to do life with people and have company when things get hard, as well as when we have something to celebrate. Naturally, we seek out people who are like us or with whom we have much in common. It matters to us that we share similar values and interests. We experience community there. But there is something better, and we instinctively know this…
Worship in Community
Did you know Jesus praised and worshiped? I imagine his singing was filled with gratitude. He sang a hymn, knowing that soon he was to be arrested, betrayed, spat upon, beaten, and crucified, all while being an innocent man! He sang and then went. Wow. May we be encouraged to follow Jesus, singing.
