Listening Like Jesus

Jesus listened to outcasts.

In today's devotional, we go over Matthew 20:29-34, where Jesus heals two blind men. They cried out to Jesus, and despite the crowd trying to silence them, Jesus listened and called them over to himself. In so many situations, Jesus went out of his way to serve the very people who were usually considered the "low-lives" in society.

Jesus asked them a simple question. "What do you want me to do for you?" He knew what they needed. He knew what they wanted. He's Jesus. But he listened to their cries, and took the time to listen to them as they stated their needs.

When he heard their request to be healed, Jesus was moved with compassion for them. Compassion is an attitude toward a need that grows into action in an effort to meet that need. Jesus was moved with compassion to ACT. He healed these two men! He gave them sight! A miracle!

How does the way Jesus listens to the "outcasts" encourage you to be a more compassionate listener to others, especially people you don't tend to agree or associate with?

What need do you have and yet are hesitant to ask Jesus for help? Today, may you be encouraged to cry out to Jesus. He listens.
