Drop Your Formulas - Surprised by Jesus

Drop your Formulas. Jesus' ways do not conform with human boundaries.

Jesus brakes our human-made rules. He travelled from Judea to Galilee through Samaria, something Jews did no do in his time unless they had to. Jews did not associate with Samaritans, men would not speak to women in public, righteous people would not talk to sinners.

Jesus ignored all of that. Jesus' ways do not conform with human boundaries. He goes out of his way to meet this un-named woman. He asks her for a drink of water, making himself vulnerable before the lowest in the religious and social ladder.

Even the woman was surprised. But this is a beautiful picture of the Son of God who stoops down to be with us, to come close, walk with us and die for us.

This week, I want to drop my formulas, my desire to control the outcome of things, including the fruit of my ministry. I spend too much time thinking at the earthly level. I want to set my mind to the heavenly level.

What formula do you need to put down so you can be refreshed by Jesus and experience peace and joy as you walk with Jesus in the mystery we call faith.

Today's passage:

A woman of Samaria came to draw water. “Give me a drink,” Jesus said to her, because his disciples had gone into town to buy food. “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” she asked him. For Jews do not associate with Samaritans. John 4:7-9
