Jesus Talks with You

Where are you headed?

In today's devotional, we read that Jesus came alongside two men who were headed to a place called Emmaus. Lots of people speculate where this place was, but I think where they were going is completely irrelevant. It's where they were leaving that mattered. They were leaving the most remarkable place, the most extraordinary story, the community of believers, and the One who was the source of the hope they sought. They were leaving the site of the resurrection, an event that would soon change their lives for eternity.

This story is wonderful. You see, in Luke's narrative, Jesus doesn't show up to the women who came to the tomb early that morning. He doesn't show up to Peter, who comes running toward him. The first place the resurrected Jesus shows up, according to Luke, is to these two men. We only know the name of one of them, but they might as well be "nobody" and "anybody." The point is that Jesus cared enough for them to walk with them.

Yeah, the ones who were walking away…

You may want to read that last sentence again.

Jesus will go where you go to *invite you* to go where he's going.
