Cry Out to the LORD
Hezekiah's Lesson #3: Expect opposition and rely on the LORD for protection
What enemy is surrounding you? What is chasing your heart? What is threatening to take you out, derail your progress, or discourage you day and night? God will send your enemy out in disgrace. Will you trust him to do so?
We can be sure that we will experience opposition and schemes of the devil if we are committed to trusting in the Lord.
In life, we all have enemies, people who intentionally seek at best to discourage us or at worst to harm us. But, we all have a greater enemy, one who wants to "steal, kill and destroy" us (John 10:10), a "roaring lion" who never takes a day off.
Should we go about afraid, defeated, and insecure? NO!
We should expect the opposition and seek the LORD for protection.
Hezekiah was wise enough not to take on the Assyrian enemy on his own. He humbled himself and prayed and cried out to the LORD. He included others and invited them to pray with him. He presented to God the defiant words of the enemy. He trusted that the LORD was listening and prepared to act on his behalf. And, he was wise to do so. God delivered Judah from the king of Assyria and sent him home in disgrace.
"I called to the Lord in my distress, and I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears." Psalm 18:6 CSB
